Even the news reporter in this video admits that the Safe Act compliant rifles are “no less dangerous, just less scary looking”.
When the Executive Director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence says the old banned rifles were banned because they were too accurate, it has to make you wonder what is going through her mind. Would she rather have gun owners firing wildly into the air, wondering where their bullets are landing because our guns were so inaccurate.
Isn’t it actually SAFER to own guns that are more accurate and that can actually hit the intended target instead of having collateral damage?
“The gun is still lethal. Yes, it can kill people, but it’s not as easy to manipulate and fire accurately as if you had a forward leaning pistol grip on it,” Leah Gunn Barrett said.
She then implies that the new Safe Act compliant gun would have made it harder for the Newton shooter to be accurate, as if any accuracy was really required for the kind of shooting that was involved in that horrible tragedy.
According to NBC New York,
The law redefined an assault weapon as a semi-automatic rifle that can accept a detachable magazine and has one military-style feature such as a pistol grip or folding stock.Tretola told the I-Team those features are less about killing, and more about comfort.“The pistol grip? That’s just so you can hold it better,” he said. “The collapsible stock is actually so if a shorter person than I am is shooting, they could bring it in and make it shorter.”Yet gun control advocates say a less comfortable rifle is also a less deadly weapon.“The legal gun looks a lot like the illegal gun,” said Leah Gunn Barrett, the executive director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence. “Does that make this law essentially cosmetic? No. These features all have specific functions.”
