A gun carrying employee at the Stroud Mall in Stroudsburg, PA stopped a robbery this week when a simple Craigslist deal to sell a cell phone turned south.
The seller of the cell phone followed internet safety protocol by meeting the seller at the mall parking lot in the middle of the day. However after they met, the buyer took out a tazer like device to stun the seller. The robber then attacked the person selling the cell phone with the electric device.
A gun carrying mall employee just happened to be nearby when he saw the robbery taking place. As soon as he pulled out his legally owned gun, the robber returned the cell phone and took off.
Police Captain Brian Kimmins said that the suspect fled the scene with 2 other occupants in a red Subaru hatchback or SUV.
The police department is not releasing the name of the mall employee who stopped the robbery. They said he did not commit any crimes and was carrying his gun legally. Friends of this man are afraid he will lose his job for having a gun at work if he is identified.
While some are calling this man a hero, other shoppers say that he put people at risk. Shopper Victoria Goldstein told WBRE, “You’re in a mall full of people and what if the robber would’ve taken the gun from him and now he have the gun in the mall with everyone. It could have escalated and been a lot worse.”
We would like to remind Ms Goldstein that time and time again it is shown that nothing stops more crime than a good guy with a gun.
