Five days ago Honduras President Juan Orlando Hernandez approved legislation declaring Roatan a gun free zone in an attempt at improving security and promoting the island as paradise and a vacation destination.
Honduras currently has the highest murder rate in the world and criminals in Roatan as the same as in the U.S., they don’t obey laws.
Just 3 days after the gun ban was put into place, the news media in Roatan is reporting that Henry Alexander Almendarez Orellana was shot and killed by 2 men on July 13, 2014.
There is a common theme when any place declares that they becoming to a “gun free zone”. It doesn’t matter if it is a restaurant in North Carolina, a coffee shop in Phoenix, or a cruise port in the Caribbean.
Gun bans only affect honest, law abiding citizens. And unfortunately, they are the ones that are getting robbed, shot and killed since they don’t have a way to protect themselves.
You know the saying, “Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it”. The history books are clear, “gun free zones” always seem to have the highest crime rates. Just ask the fine citizens of Chicago how the gun ban is working on reducing crime.
Over the 4th of July weekend, 82 were shot and 16 were killed in Chicago despite having some of the toughest gun laws in the country. It is about time that politicians in Chicago, New York, and even Roatan realize that gun bans don’t stop criminals from using guns.
