A 27-year-old single mother from Philadelphia could face 3 years in a New Jersey prison for being honest about her legally owned gun.
Shaneen Allen had already been robbed twice last year and decided to get a firearm to keep herself and her children safe. She took a gun safety course, applied for a concealed carry permit and it was granted.
But going to New Jersey and not being aware of the reciprocity laws could put her in big trouble with the anti-gun state.
When Allen was stopped for a minor traffic offense in New Jersey she was completely honest about her legally owned gun and everything spiraled out of control from there.
Even the police officer said that the fact that she opened her mouth about her gun was what messed up her life.
But having a concealed handgun in NJ was not her only problem.
According to My9NJ.com,
“The judge tried to tell me that telling the truth messed me up, my life up and the cop said the same thing. Me opening my mouth and speaking out he said I’m one out of ten people that spoke up and was honest and that got me in trouble,” she said.
Allen was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of hollow-point bullets which were in the gun. Under New Jersey gun laws, the illegal possession of a gun is a second-degree felony which holds a minimum sentence of three-years in prison.
Allen’s Attorney Evan Nappen feels that the judge doesn’t have a lot of discretion in this particular case.
“We’re talking about a law-abiding, licensed person who did nothing wrong. She is now facing three-years minimum mandatory, where the judge has no discretion, in state’s prison,” he said.
Allen has no criminal record and only owned the gun for a week. So far the Atlantic County Prosecutor has denied her entry into a diversionary program that would allow her to avoid jail time.
“Oh, but she should have known the laws better”, you might say. But that’s conceding the very fact that the NJ gun laws are bogus and this should not even be an issue. It’s because NJ does not respect the concealed carry laws of PA or even the 2nd amendment itself that has led to this incident and others like it.
Good job, New Jersey. Do you feel safer now that a dangerous criminal could be in prison for 3 years? This is exactly what gun-control-happy states like New Jersey want to happen. It’s not about the criminals. It’s about getting rid of guns and the people who own them, period.
It’s about more than just your guns. A financial collapse is looming on the horizon and this expert says this crisis will be unlike any other in history. Read more here to see system swiped form Navy Seal playbooks. (sponsored)
