The Harnett County, North Carolina Sheriff understands that law enforcement simply cannot show up on time to be able to stop most violent crimes. And now he is telling North Carolina residents to arm themselves in order to protect themselves.
The community of Harnett County has experienced a growth in population in recent years and that has led to what’s being called an “explosion” in violent crime.
In a town hall meeting in Lillington, North Carolina Sheriff Larry Rollins urged the audience to use firearms to protect themselves.
According to ABC11,
Sheriff Larry Rollins told the crowd that the violence is fueled by gangs and drugs. He urged everyone to protect themselves, saying he doesn’t go anywhere without a gun.
“When I am out with my family, even though I am a cop, I don’t go anywhere without a gun,” Rollins told the crowd. “I mean it’s sad we have to have that attitude, but I am going to protect myself and my family.
“I want my deputies at your house just as fast as they can when you got a problem, but you better be able to take care of business until we get there if you have to protect your family.”
If more families were ready to “take care of business” violent criminals would think twice before entering a home. This Sheriff has the right idea and if more law enforcement officials encouraged responsible gun ownership instead of gun control we would all be a lot better off.
