After a drunk driver in a Hummer reportedly tried to run over two other men, one of the men grabbed his gun and shot out two of his tires. When the police showed up they found the vehicle sitting on the rims with two deflated tires.
The incident took place in Lake Worth, Florida on Monday. According to local news reports Guilibaldo Gonzalez-Lopez, 37, had been drinking tequila and had come to a home to get a tattoo done. One of the witnesses said that he was concerned about Gonzalez-Lopez driving but still the man got in his Hummer and and started driving erratically all over the homeowner’s lawn.
At one point Gonzalez-Lopez tried to run the man over with his black Hummer. One of the neighbors heard the commotion and grabbed his gun. After seeing what was going on he shot out the front passenger tire with one shot.
Gonzalez-Lopez stopped driving the vehicle momentarily and then revved the engine again and began driving it towards two men who were standing in the driveway. The neighbor fired another shot at the rear passenger tire and that caused the driver to drive away from the scene.
But the vehicle didn’t make it very far. Deputies found the vehicle at an intersection with two blown out tires with the vehicle sitting on the rims. Gonzalez-Lopez refused to do a field sobriety test and began shouting obscenities at the officers.
The driver did not have a valid driver’s license and he was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and driving under the influence. But thanks to the neighbor having a deadly weapon of his own and using judicious marksmanship this drunk driver was not able to harm anyone else.
Now that’s gun control. Although Hummer’s are known for having enormous tires, hats off to the gun owner who placed his rounds exactly where he intended them to go. The driver is lucky that his tires are the only things that got blown out.
