This is a case where the police cadet was actually the bad guy and an armed citizen was the good guy. And of course this goes against everything that anti-gunners like to tout, that police should be the only ones with guns.
The armed citizen thwarted a possible mass shooting incident as well, so it’s a good thing the family did not wait for the 911 operator to send help.
According to WBIR.com, the Knoxville police cadet, Michael Little, 21, went to his ex-girlfriend’s house. The two had broken up a few weeks earlier. According to witnesses as Little turned to leave he pulled out a .45 handgun and began shooting.
The young cadet shot 3 people, killing one, before he was stopped by a family member with a gun of his own.
“We understand initially it didn’t sound like any kind of confrontation. Then, as he was leaving, he confronted a family-friend,” Chief Rausch said.
He said the cadet then shot the 28-year-old “family friend.” The victim died at the scene.
The cadet also shot his ex-girlfriend and her mother. They were both taken to UT for non-life threatening injures.
The son and brother of the two women lived at the home and heard it all happening.
“He went and retrieved a firearm to defend his family and shot the cadet multiple times,” he said.
The cadet also died on the scene.
Little was a cadet in the department in a program designed to help younger individuals get experience in law enforcement. The duties of cadets in this program usually involve answering calls and doing clerical work, and guns are not issued to these cadets, which are 21 and younger.
