Because a Buckley, Washington homeowner was also a gun owner he was able to protect himself and his wife when an intruder broke into this home at 11pm on Monday night. Watch video below.
The incident began when the suspect revved his engine and crashed through a locked gate in front of a rural home. A man and wife in their 60’s then heard the intruder banging on the door and bashing in windows, trying to break into their house.
The 67-year-old homeowner called 911 but he was not about to just wait patiently for the police to show up. He grabbed his gun and went to investigate when he saw the intruder had already broken into his home.
Police reports are saying that the intruder then began attacking the homeowner and started punching him. In the middle of the scuffle the homeowner managed to get a handle on his gun and opened fire on the suspect, killing him on the scene.
The homeowner who also had a heart condition was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. It is not expected that he will face any charges, nor should he for protecting his wife and his own life from this crazed intruder.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office believes the suspect was in his 30s and lived in the neighborhood. They are investigating if alcohol or drugs may have played a role in the intrusion.
The home’s occupants said they did not know the intruder, who “reeked” of marijuana, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. He said toxicology tests will show if the suspect had other drugs in his system.
Home invasions like this happen all over the country every day, and more homeowners are becoming gun owners because they realize this threat is not just a delusional fairy tale made up by gun rights proponents.
