If anti-gunners want more proof that those millions of dollars spent by Michael Bloomberg did nothing but strengthen the cause for gun rights they don’t need to look any further than the latest gun poll.
Only 23% in the Rasmussen poll said they would feel safer if guns were not allowed in their neighborhood. 68% said they would feel safer in an armed neighborhood where people could own guns for self-defense.
This means that 7 out of every 10 people understand that disarming law abiding citizens does nothing but make them bigger targets for the criminals who ignore gun laws and still get their hands on guns.
But there is still work to be done to educate people on gun control and what it actually means. The poll found that 59% still favor a ban on “assault weapons”, but that’s probably because of the confusion surrounding what an assault weapon actually is.
Automatic weapons are already banned for the most part, but it’s the common semi-automatic rifles with adjustable stocks and pistol grips that keep getting called “assault rifles” even though millions of Americans own them, and they are virtually no different than an average hunting rifle.
And any expert on gun violence agrees that a ban on so called “assault weapons” will have virtually no change in gun violence whatsoever, being involved in only 4% of all crimes. But what it would do is restrict the rights of law abiding citizens while opening a door to more gun confiscation.
18% in the poll wanted a ban on all handguns so it looks like some are drinking the Bloomberg Kool-Aid.
