An elderly homeowner shoots a bold daylight would-be burglar in the Harlowe area according to WCTI.
Craven County Sheriff’s Captain, Joe Heckman, told us a 31-year-old male came up to the house on Pinecliff Road in Harlowe. He said, that man tried to engage in a conversation with the 71-year-old male homeowner. According to Heckman, the homeowner went back inside, and when the homeowner came back outside the younger male was still there. Heckman said a fight then happened.
“The victim pulled out a gun, the 71-year-old pulled out a gun and shot the 31-year-old attacker,” said Heckman.
He said the 31-year-old went to Carteret General Hospital before being taken to Vidant Medical Center.
Neighbors say this is not the first time a robbery has been attempted at this house.
“I know he’s been broken into one or two times before,” said neighbor Martin Donohue. “I’ve been to his house. From what he has actually done, he has fortified like his doors ans windows because he’s been broken into before.”
Heckman said the suspect is in stable condition at Vidant Medical Center, and could face charges of strong armed robbery and conspiracy to strong armed robbery.
This just brings up the question, what did this elderly man do the other times that he was broken into? Nonetheless, from now on he is prepared with his trusty sidearm at the ready.
