A 72-year-old woman in South Carolina was not about to watch an intruder with a bat beat her friend to death, and knowing the police could never get there in time she grabbed her gun and fired a shot.
The woman from Anderson County, South Carolina said she hired Richard Keese, 54, the month before to repair her vehicle. But Monday at 3pm Keese broke into her home and assaulted two woman inside the house.
The elderly homeowner’s friend grabbed a baseball bat to protect herself from the intruder, but when Keese grabbed the bat from her he began to use it against the younger woman.
This is when the older woman used her handgun to fire a shot at the intruder, grazing his head with the bullet. But it was enough to stop the attack and save the two women’s lives.
According to foxcarolina.com police said “both the intruder and the younger woman were taken to AnMed Health. She said the victim was treated and released Monday night while the suspect, identified as Richard Keese, 54, was released on Tuesday.Keese is being held at the county jail facing charges of attempted murder and burglary, according to the Anderson County Detention Center’s website.”
The homeowner, Frances Ward, was prepared to use deadly force to save her friend.
“If he hadn’t of been standing up, I would have hit him right here with the gun because I was aiming for his forehead to kill him, because he was beating the daylights out of her with that ball bat and I wasn’t going to let that happen,” Ward said.
The fact that this woman was able to stop the intruder from killing either of the two woman in the house is more evidence that gun owners save lives. If politicians really wanted to protect women from violence they would make it easier to make more women gun owners instead of restricting the rights of law abiding citizens.
This was one granny who was ready and willing to use her handgun, but this story would have ended much differently had a gun not been present. Notice that Ward did not give Keese a chance to take her gun. She just used it and it did the job.
