Don’t look for this news to be plastered all over the major media outlets. They are too busy reporting on the Fort Hood shootings and doing everything they can to blame gun owners for what happened.
When concealed carry was introduced in Illinois last year it was the last state in the US to finally make it legal for gun owners to carry their concealed weapons. But anti-gunners everywhere cried out that it would only increase the murder rate and gun violence would shoot through the roof. Well, once again, the anti-gun activists were wrong.
The numbers have shown a sharp decline in murders in Chicago since concealed carry was brought to Illinois.
The Sun Times Media Wire had to admit this “coincidence” that while concealed carry is in effect the murder rate is going down at the same time.
Chicago’s first-quarter murder total this year hit its lowest number since 1958, police say.
The first three months of the year saw 6 fewer murders than the same time frame in 2013–a 9 percent drop–and 55 fewer murders than 2012, according to a statement from Chicago Police.
There were 90 fewer shootings and 119 fewer shooting victims, drops of 26 and 29 percent respectively, according to police statistics. Compared to the first quarter of 2012, there have been 222 fewer shootings and 292 fewer shooting victims.
Did you read that? The 1st quarter murder totals are at their lowest in 56 years! If this trend continues it will be huge news that should make even an anti-gun supporter applaud.
But this is not news only relevant only to Chicago. Everywhere that concealed carry has been introduced and where law abiding citizens have been allowed to own and carry handguns the murder rate has fallen. It’s only in “gun free zones” and tight gun control laden cities that we see increases in violence. After all, it’s only the law abiding citizens that obey gun laws. The criminals don’t give them up and they don’t buy them legally either.
You will notice the article didn’t mention that fact that Illinois now has concealed carry. That’s what we call an inconvenient truth that Chicago’s police chief would rather leave out. This is the same guy that said that carrying a firearm is the gateway to committing a murder, so don’t expect him to be a huge proponent of the concealed carry laws that may have just helped him lower his city’s murder rate.
We will see if the trend continues or if this was just an anomaly in the Windy City. Either way, the presence of Illinois residents carry concealed firearms has not increased the murder rate and led to blood in the streets as the gun grabbers foretold.
