Maryland has chosen to side with the criminals. Because the state has no Castle Doctrine in place, a US Air Force Sgt. Has been charged with murder for simply protecting his family from a crazed intruder. According to Maryland he should have just called 911.
On September 13th just before 2am, US Air Force Tech Sgt. Matt Pinkerton shot a man who kicked in his front door demanding to see his wife.
The intruder, Kendall Green, had been harassing Pinkerton’s wife, Jessica . Green had helped Jessica when her brother was in a coma from an accident and her husband, Matt was overseas serving his country.
It’s clear from reports that Green tried to pursue a deeper relationship with Jessica, which she refused and tried to end the friendship.
“Green had texted me sometime in July or August saying that he missed the kids, and Matt didn’t deserve us and that he deserved a chance. He wanted more,” Jessica stated.
But on a late Sunday night Sgt Pinkerton and his wife were entertaining a couple in their home, one of whom was Matt’s brother. That’s when Green showed up at the door and demanded to see Jessica.
Pinkerton would not allow Green into his home. He closed the door and returned to his wife and guests. That’s when Green kicked down the door and came at Pinkerton in a fit of rage. Pinkerton had grabbed his Glock 17 when he first heard someone outside his door at that late hour.
When Green came at him Sgt. Pinkerton fired a shot and struck Green from 10-15 feet away. When Green came at him the 2nd time Pinkerton fired a second shot, which caused Green to stumble his way out the door, collapsing on the porch.
Mike Pinkerton, one of Matt’s guests, recalled the incident:
“He (Green) kept coming forward so Matt fired. He rocked backwards and took another step forward at which time Matt took his second shot. He stumbled backwards and fell out the door onto the porch. When the shots were fired Jessica called 911. Matt spoke to the operator; he removed the clip from his gun and the bullet in the chamber. Police arrived within five minutes.”
In most states this would be a cut and dry case of self-defense, but Maryland’s lack of a castle doctrine enables criminals to feel safe when they break into a home. Except in this case, Sgt. Pinkerton was not about to let his family become victims of an enraged intruder.
According to the state of Maryland, Pinkerton should have called 911 and simply waited for the police to show up. Who knows, maybe just showing the phone to the intruder would have stopped him in his tracks, right?
Being faced with murder charges for defending his family hardly seems like justice. But the Assistant State’s Attorney, Glen Neubauer sees this as the only recourse for Pinkerton’s actions. By the way, Neaubauer is a notorious anti-gunner who believes that just the act of grabbing a gun in this situation exemplified “bizarre behavior in itself”.
What would be more bizarre is to sit idly by on the phone with a 911 operator after a crazed intruder just bashed his way into your home. But this is NOT just about there being an imminent threat when the police are still minutes away.
Think about it. If this is not a clear case of a justified gun use, what is? The anti-gunners in Maryland have fought against the Castle Doctrine because if there is even a possibility of a gun being used for something good they cannot outright ban them. So even cases like this must be seen as murder instead of self-defense in order to enforce their ultimate agenda which is not so subtle anymore.
Sgt. Pinkerton should not have been charged with murder, and this case should not even be going to trial. But now the family is facing major legal fees, and they have already had to get a $25,000 loan just to get Matt released on bond. Another $25,000 has been spent on legal fees.
Not only does Maryland need a Castle Doctrine to stop empowering criminals from feeling safe when breaking into a home, but the state needs an Attorney General who understands the laws of self-preservation.
I would venture to say that out of our 200,000+ fans most all of you would have done the same thing in Matt’s place. When a crazed lunatic who has been harassing your wife breaks in your door at 2am and starts coming at you, it’s not time to pick up the phone and place a quick call. There is not only a legal right but a moral one to protect your family.
Yes 911 was called. But it was after Pinkerton ensured the safety of his wife and guests. You can check out the support page that Matt setup if you would like to know how you can help support his family during this time.
