We just reported yesterday that many New Yorkers are refusing to comply with the unconstitutional SAFE Act that was pushed through the legislature last year. Now we are seeing reports that as many as 90% or more may have failed or outright refused to register their so called “assault weapons” with the state.
Of course these are not assault weapons but semi-automatic rifles that millions of New Yorkers own. And they, by the way, have not killed anyone.
The April 15th deadline is drawing closer and not only have many NY law enforcement officials declared that they will not enforce the gun control law, bearingarms.com has found that very few have even bothered to register their guns with the state.
While NY State Police refuse to publicly share the number of firearms that have been registered (citing a provision of the NY SAFE Act itself), leaks purporting to be from within the agency suggest that compliance might be as low as just 3,000-5,000 firearms. There is no way to conclusively verify this paltry figure which suggests that 99.5% of New Yorkers are thumbing their noses at Albany, but it may very well be a credible figure.
It might seem preposterous that so many law abiding citizens are refusing to comply with an anti-gun law that restricts basic 2nd amendment rights, but then again, is it?
After Connecticut forced through their own gun control laws which infringed on 2nd amendment rights the state saw only 40,000 do so out of the estimated 1,000,000 that owned “high capacity” magazines and so-called “assault weapons”.
It looks like a trend is emerging that would either make these anti-gun laws ineffective (which they already are) or will cost anti-gun candidates their jobs. Have you noticed how even radical leftists are pretending to be pro-gun?
Remember all those gun registration forms that New York gun owners gathered to burn? That was not a fluke, and it’s happening in principle across the state.
In January of 2014 The Oneida Daily Dispatch reported that Assemblyman Bill Nojay (R-Pittsford) suggested that law enforcement is not going to be actively going after those who refuse to comply to the law: “The rank and file troopers don’t want anything to do with it. [And] I don’t know of a single sheriff upstate who is going to enforce it. If you don’t have the troopers and you don’t have the sheriffs, who have you got? You’ve got Andrew Cuomo pounding on the table in Albany.”
