One suspect was shot in the head and the face during a struggle over his weapon. It all happened at a home on 127 Woodland Heights in Raeford.
The two masked intruders entered the home early while Michael Bryant and his 13 year old were asleep. The two invaders woke Michael up, held a shotgun to his face, and demanded cash.
Michael was not going to let these idiots take his cash or his life, and a struggle over the weapon began. Michael was able to wrestle the weapon from the intruder, but not before it went off striking the suspect in the face and head.
This is when the two invaders- Dangelo Turner, 18 and Carmen Ordaz, 31- fled the house with Michael pursuing them.
The two were headed towards Army Road according to the police. Michael followed them with the shotgun in his possession. Unfortunately Carmen still had her firearm and shot at Michael while he was chasing him. The round struck his hand.
Turner was dropped off at the hospital’s front entrance some time later. According to WNCN,
Turner was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill/inflict serious injury, first-degree robbery, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. He is being held under $100,000 unsecured bond.
The second suspect, Carmen Ordaz, 31, was already in the Moore County Detention Center on unrelated charges.
On Tuesday, Ordaz was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill/inflict serious injury, first-degree robbery, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. She is being held under a $150,000 unsecured bond.
While we do commend Michael on his bravery, he did make a few mistakes that could have proven to fatal. It is not recommended that you wrestle an intruder that is holding you at gunpoint. However, it is recommended that you keep your firearm close to bedside fully loaded just for such an occasion as this. Lastly, most laws do not allow a suspect to chased from the residence without some kind of charge or fine. Shoot to kill, do not chase, and call 911.
