The Daily Caller has reported that a school near Tuscon Arizona has something extra for parents and students to sign along with fall registration.
A Flowing Wells Unified School District school has decided to ask parents to sign a contract. This contract mostly details information about deescalating potentially violent situations and how to resolve disagreements. But there is something not so innocuous that stands out in the contract as well.
Here is the part that has some parents questioning this document. It says,
“I will teach, including by personal example, my teenager about the dangers and consequences of the misuse of guns and weapons, and I will keep any guns I own under lock, away from school grounds and away from my children.”

Not only does Arizona not legally require gun owners to lock up their guns, but residents are allowed to free carry their guns outside their homes as well.
If parents are supposed to keep guns away from their children, does this mean a father can’t take his son hunting and teach him how to be a responsible gun user and owner? It appears to be another attempt to demonize gun use and to influence the next generation of gun owners.
While many parents already lock up their guns, some would say that this will make the family less safe in a home invasion situation. But to sign a document that says you will keep guns away from your children at all times means that you never have the opportunity to teach gun safety and how to safely handle a firearm.
There has not been any information given as to what exactly would happen if a parent decided not to sign the document, but it certainly would not be against Arizona law to teach children how to handle firearms responsibly.
