California is giving gun owners yet another reason to hate their politicians. And since the anti-gun crowd cannot completely outlaw guns outright, they are going after the ammo.
Senate Bill 53 was first introduced in December of last year, but now it actually has a fighting chance of becoming law. The bill would require a license in order to buy ammo, and this license will not be provided without a background check and a mental health check.
And from recent reports it looks like a mental health check can easily be failed just because a doctor is anti-gun and wants to label a gun owner as suicidal or unfit to operate a firearm.
The required license will only be valid for one year, and the costs of the extra background check will be passed along to the gun owner once again.
Senate Bill 53 has just passed the senate in California and it is more menacing than you may think.
The bill would also require all ammunition dealers to acquire a license from the state as well as track and report all ammo sales at their location.
And forget buying ammunition online. This bill would totally eliminate online sales of ammo.
The big question is if this bill is passed how long will California residents have to wait to buy their ammo. With all that red tape and bureaucracy it could be a while before ammo is readily available, and with ammo already fairly scarce these days, this law does nothing but make matters worse. And considering that the law does nothing to stop criminals but only restricts law abiding citizens, it’s obvious that California is one of the least gun-friendly states in the US.
