The Hill has reported that the gun that Democrats are seeking to ban is currently owned by 8 to 9 million US citizens. And according to the Democratic Representative from Rhode Island, these guns can ONLY be used for mass murder.
This from Reason.com,
Undaunted by that reality, Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.), joined by 123 cosponsors, this week announced the Assault Weapons Ban of 2015, which would “prohibit the sale, transfer, production, and importation of…semi-automatic rifles and handguns with a military-style feature that can accept a detachable magazine.” Cicilline did not explain what he means by “a military-style feature,” and so far I have had no luck locating the actual text of his bill. But assuming it resembles the “assault weapon” ban that Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) proposed in 2013, the prohibited features are things like pistol grips, barrel shrouds, threaded barrels, and folding stocks.
It’s a mystery why Cicilline thinks such features make firearms especially lethal, let alone uniquely suited to mass murder. But that is what he claims to think. “The sole purpose of their existence,” he told reporters on Wednesday, is “to kill as many people as quickly as possible.” Rep. Janice Hahn (D-Calif.) agreed. “The assault weapons we’re talking about today are not just any guns,” she said. “They’re not for hunting. They’re not for target practice. These are weapons of war, designed to inflict the maximum amount of death and injury.” Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), the Democratic whip, chimed in, averring that “assault weapons” are not appropriate for people who “want to protect themselves in their homes” either.
So if Cicilline’s logic is correct then we have almost 9 million US citizens that should be on the terror watch list for owning a weapon that will only be used for mass murder.
This is the kind of illogical thinking we are dealing with on the anti-gun debate, and this is why so many Americans are waking up and rejecting the “Assault Weapons” ban of 2015 as complete bunk. ABC’s poll showed that more Americans than ever before reject the ban and have little to no trust in the government to be able to protect them from the type of terror attack we saw in San Bernardino.
Rep. Cicilline is completely oblivious to the fact that semi-automatic firearms are used to hunt, in target practice, and yes, even for self defense.
We have reported on many stories where an AR-15 was used for self-defense, including the event when a thief with a 9mm pistol broke into a house and the homeowner used an AR-15 to fend for his life.
Even a 15-year-old boy used his dads AR-15 to shoot intruders who were breaking into his house. Now what’s this again about these guns only being used for mass murder?
Oh and how about this story, where a Utah school is using AR-15s to protect its schools.
But those weren’t the only schools. Schools in Georgia also requested these AR-15s to help prevent attacks at their schools as well.
We could go on and on with examples of how semi-automatic rifles are used for self-defense and things other than mass shootings, but for some anti-protectionists reality is never enough.
