The democrat senators Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) have proposed the “Handgun Trigger Safety Act” that would take affect within 5 years. What would this mean?
It would make “anyone selling a handgun, retrofit it with personalization technology before that sale can be completed”. Not only would it stop there but how about a ban “manufacturing in the United States a handgun that is not a personalized handgun” as soon as five years from signing.
Smart gun technology starts at $1,800 at the cheapest and goes up. I don’t like the sound of this at all. For those new to the term “smart gun” technology it simply means a handgun’s operation made for a single user through finger or print scan, code, electronic password, or watch or bracelet in the near vicinity.
Markey said the mandate would “authorize grants to develop and improve ‘personalized’ handgun technology to increase efficacy and decrease costs.” Along with that it would include “providing reimbursement to manufacturers for the costs of retrofitting handguns through the Department of Justice Assets Forfeiture Fund.” Feel free to email your representative to clobber this before it gets off of the ground.
