A woman in Milwaukie, Oregon was able to protect herself against a mentally unstable intruder because she had a gun.
The intruder had already walked into 2 other apartments in the complex and had been starring into the windows of a home where children were playing. His actions outside the apartment were caught on surveillance camera, which shows the suspect trying to get into the door and then walking away.
Crystal McKinney said that the intruder followed her up the stairs and then into her apartment. According to Kens5.com she knew that something was not right.
“I backed up and I said ‘What are you doing?'” McKinney said. “He said, ‘Do you want to meet God?’ I went to my room and got my gun. I said get out or I will shoot you.”
The intruder did not seem ready to meet God himself. When the woman pulled out the gun the man turned to walk out of the apartment. The woman followed the man with her gun drawn to make sure he would not return.
When the man left McKinney closed the door and called 911.
“My adrenaline was really pumping and I broke down in tears,” McKinney said. She said she was ready to shoot if she had to, and while some may wish she had pulled the trigger, she was the one who had to determine if the suspect posed an immediate threat to her life or not. Either way, it’s obvious that the gun in her hands completely changed the situation and spared her from any physical harm.
Some of the other neighbors eventually caught the suspect and held him until the police arrived. The man is no stranger to the police and deputies are saying that the suspect is being held for mental evaluation.
