The Secret Service is getting involved after a two-block drive-by shooting right near the White House that left store fronts riddled with bullets.
Several businesses had boarded up windows and bullet holes in the walls after the drive-by shooting that was carried out with a 9mm handgun.
The shooting was so close to the White House that White House staffers reportedly had held meetings at a coffee shop that had to replace its store front window after being shot out by the gunfire.
According to the Daily Caller,
Two of those bullets entered the window and hit the walls inside Brewood Engravers & Printers at 1701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, just a block from the White House, in a shooting that occurred at approximately 2:30 AM early Saturday morning. The office building entrance, next door to the shop, also has a window boarded up.
The Caribou Coffee at the corner of 17th and Pennsylvania, right across the street from the White House — and normally, a large Secret Service presence — has a wall-length window boarded up. An employee inside Caribou confirmed that a shooting took out the store’s window.
It doesn’t look like the White House was a target in the shooting and the incident appears to be random, but with some of the strictest gun control in the nation Washington D.C. is not supposed to have these problems.
Six properties were hit with bullets that appear to have been fired for 2 blocks as the vehicle traveled down the road.
“Well, on Saturday morning about 2:30, there was a car running down the street and somebody was shooting with a nine-millimeter handgun,” the Brewood Engravers manager told TheDC, relaying his conversation with the Secret Service investigator. ”Two bullets hit our window. They hit Caribou Coffee. So they were shooting for about two blocks down Pennsylvania Ave.”
“They’re hoping to get video and hopefully see who perpetrated the crime…No products hit. Just the walls and the window,” Perlman said.
The president was not at the White House during the shooting but was in Hawaii on vacation.
It has not yet been determined if the shooter registered the handgun involved or planned on going to the police station to get fingerprinted in order to re-register the gun (as we reported on in a previous article regarding D.C. gun control). Oh wait. Criminals don’t register their guns. That’s just for the law abiding citizens so the gun-banners can keep tabs on those dangerous gun owners.
