The small Georgia town of Rhine took matters into their own hands when an armed thief was on the loose. They took up arms and formed a posse which ended up finding and catching the robber who had just held up a local convenience store. Watch news VIDEO below.
60-year-old Ken Lowery was one of the first on the scene after the Rhine convenience store was robbed. He and several of the other people at the store were outraged by the robbery that took place in broad daylight in their little town. So they decided to do something about it.
As many as 20 Rhine residents formed a posse and many of them were armed as they began looking for the suspect. Lowery ended up finding the suspect who was casually making his getaway on foot. Lowery fired a warning shot from his deer hunting rifle, which is usually not a great idea depending on where you live. (We have reported of some gun owners getting in trouble
The suspect then began to run. He hide the gun and money and hid himself in a nearby shed. The posse was then able to help the sheriff locate the suspect while making sure he didn’t get away. The crook was arrested thanks to the help of these gun owning citizens of Rhine.
From watching the news video you can see that everyone in the town seems very thankful for the armed posse that took care of business. We know a few gunphobic towns that would have been up in arms over an incident like this. And by “up in arms” we mean they would hold an anti-gun rally in which maybe 10 people would show up.
Major Donald Helms of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office says it’s just a story of good guys with guns. People in a small town excerising their right to bear arms.
“You might not want to come down there and mess with the Rhine folks,” Helms said.
“Don’t come to Rhine and mess with us, because if you do, we’re going to mess with you,” [Rhine Posse member Carter Clements] said.
The news lady tries to make it sound like it was a scene from the old west, but this is neither accurate or a reasonable comparison. Anti-gunners like to talk about the old west as if one could not walk down the street without dodging whizzing bullets, but the truth of the matter is that violent crime was lower in these times.
