Here’s one gun story you probably did not hear about on Mother’s Day. But it’s yet another example of guns in the right hands stopping criminals.
A 49-year-old Michigan man was caring for his 98-year-old grandmother who is partially blind and deaf when he heard a knock at the door followed by the sound of someone breaking in.
Just a few hours earlier the grandson was alerted that something was wrong at his grandmothers house. Real-time monitoring software was on the grandmother’s computer so that he could keep an eye on her condition. But when burglars stole that computer the monitoring system went down and the grandson went to see if his grandmother was ok.
But he didn’t leave his house before grabbing a shotgun. He chose to stay at his grandmother’s that night just in case the thieves returned.
Just a few hours later at 4am he heard the burglars breaking in again for a second attempt at robbery.
The man fired at the intruders and missed. After the intruder ran to his car, the caregiver went outside to record the license plate number on the vehicle.
But when the burglars tried to run him over with their car the armed grandson fired at the driver. The driver was hit with bird-shot from the shotgun and drove himself to a hospital.
Investigators have learned that the suspect is a fugitive parole absconder, which basically means he was running from the law. It’s a good thing the elderly woman’s grandson was willing to arm himself to take this dangerous man off the streets.
The shooter is not being detained by police and is fully cooperating with police, while police say the intruder will most likely face charges of first-degree home invasion.
Buena Vista police say the 1st burglary took place between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., when the woman was home alone. Thieves forced the back door of the home, stealing a laptop computer and an ATV from the garage. But ultimately it was stealing this woman’s laptop that led to their demise. You don’t mess with a man’s mom, and you sure don’t mess with his grandmother.
