When 3 intruders break down the door to your house it’s too late to call 911 and wait for help to arrive. A 20-year-old was caring for his mother at home at 10am on Friday when 3 men kicked in the door and stormed the house.
But what the intruders thought would be an easy home invasion turned out to be the fight for their lives. The homeowner quickly grabbed his gun and began firing at the suspects.
According to wdrb.com,
“This 20-year-old was able to gain a firearm. He did discharge that firearm at these 3 individuals, and he believed he struck one of those individuals,” says Sgt. Robert Biven with Louisville Metro Police.
One of the suspects was shot at least twice, according to police. A short time later, police say that suspect arrived in a vehicle at the Marathon gas station at the corner of Breckenridge Lane and Landside Drive, near where the attempted home invasion took place.
It is not clear whether the suspect drove himself to that location.
Police say the suspect initially told people at the gas station that he was the victim of a robbery, that he had been shot and that he needed medical treatment.
But police say that after speaking with witnesses, they believe the first of those three claims was false.
“He will have forthcoming charges once the detectives do some further investigations. We are also looking for 2 additional people,” says Sgt. Biven.
A 3 against 1 fight would usually be very unfair, but because this young man was armed he was able to protect his life and the life of his mother as well. And while he wasn’t able to shoot all 3, the 2 suspects who were not shot didn’t stick around after the 20-year-old opened fire.
