DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. —A man shot a burglar who used a crowbar to break into his south DeKalb home on Monday, police said.
said he was asleep when someone kicked in the front door of his house on Kings Glen Drive around 11 a.m. The homeowner said he grabbed a gun and went to see what happened, then realized that someone was inside.
“The male heard the entry of the suspect,
retrieved a firearm and confronted him in the home,” DeKalb County Police Capt. Steve Fore said.
As the suspect ran to his car,
the homeowner shot at him, police said.
“As he was getting into the vehicle, the homeowner reported that it appeared he was reaching for something in the vehicle, and in fear, (he) fired his weapon,” Fore said.
The suspect didn’t get far.
NewsChopper 2 showed where police surrounded the car a short distance from the crime scene. On the ground, video shows that the car’s windshield was shattered.
“(We) don’t know how many rounds were fired at this time; that’s under investigation,” Fore said.
Officers arrested the suspect at a nearby Texaco gas station on Panthersville Road. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he remains in stable
condition. No one else was injured.
The case is under investigation.
