Both the homeowner and the intruder are in serious medical condition after the intruder tried to force his way into an Iowa home early Monday morning.
The intruder was carrying a knife and chose his target at random to carry out his attack on the homeowner.
According to media reports, the homeowner heard a knock at the door around 6:00 Monday morning. When the resident answered the door the suspect began asking questions and carrying on a brief conversation with the homeowner before he pulled out a knife and began stabbing the man.
Even with a severe knife-wound to the neck the homeowner was armed and pulled out his gun to shoot the violent intruder who tried to force his way inside the house.
He fired 3 rounds to the torso of the suspect who then fled the scene with his wounds and later crashed his car into a ditch.
Both men were transported to the local hospital. No charges are to be expected from the homeowner who acted in self-defense and police believe this to be an isolated incident.
