In his final State of the Union speech President Obama bragged on his own administration’s international prowess, touting the Iran nuclear deal and ignoring the 10 US Navy sailors that were held captive by Iran at the time.
Even while he was saying that other countries don’t dare attack us, these 10 sailors were held captive, adding to the embarrassment of the situation.
But early Wednesday morning Iran released the 10 men and received the thanks of Secretary of State John Kerry.
“I want to express my gratitude to Iranian authorities for their cooperation in swiftly resolving this matter,” Kerry said in a statement Wednesday.
“I’m very pleased that our Sailors have been safely returned to U.S. hands,” Kerry said in a statement. “As a former Sailor myself, I know the importance of naval presence around the world and the critical work being done by our Navy in the Gulf region. I’m proud of our young men and women in uniform and know how seriously they take their responsibilities to one another and to other mariners in distress.”
Iran claims the boat had drifted into Iranian waters and excused their reason for detaining the 10 sailors.
Shortly after Kerry expressed his gratitude to Iran, these photos below were released:
