Unbelievable. When this Kentucky politician accidentally fired a a gun in her office she decided to blame the gun instead of her lack of understanding and responsibility in owning a firearm.
A Kentucky state representative accidentally fired her semi-automatic handgun Tuesday night in the Capitol annex office.
That incident happened just before the State of the State address delivered by Governor Steve Beshear.
Representative Leslie Combs (D- Pikeville) says she was unloading a Ruger LCP .380 according to safety procedure when it accidentally fired. The bullet struck the floor and ricocheted into a bookcase.
Representative Jeff Greer was in the room at the time of the incident but was not hurt.
When asked by reporters Wednesday to see where the gun was discharged, Combs declined and said she was putting the gun away because, “I don’t want to use it anymore.”
“I was purposefully disarming it to put it up because I didn’t like it and didn’t want to use it anymore,” Combs explained that she was planning on selling the gun.
“Why at that particular moment? I kind of had it on my brain. I had it in my purse,” Combs said. “I carried it usually, and I thought I want to put that sucker away. And I did. And I was going through the process as I have been trained to do, had it pointed in the proper direction like I’ve been trained, was disarming it like Ive been trained to do, and …like I said I am a gun owner …. it happens.”
Does it really just happen? Guns just fire themselves when you are following safety procedures? Upon closer examination it looks like she removed the magazine without even thinking that a bullet might just be in the chamber as well. I guess she just decided to empty the chamber by squeezing the trigger. Doesn’t sound like “safety procedure” to me.
So now Representative Combs wants to get a revolver instead. I wonder if her coworkers feel safer yet.
