UPDATE: The gun shop owner has decided NOT to sell the smart gun in his store. Read more here.
There are currently no gun shops in America selling the fabled “smart gun”, but that could all change when a Maryland gun shop, Engage Armament, begins to sell the Armatix iP1 smart gun pictured above.
You might remember the gun shop in California that started to sell the Armatix iP1 but after backlash from the gun community immediately removed the gun from their shelves and pretended like it never sold the gun in the first place.
The backlash from the Oak Tree Gun Club in California almost caused the shop to close its doors after gun owners vowed to boycott the gun shop.
So why is the Maryland gun shop starting to sell the so called “smart gun” if they know the kind of backlash they will more than likely receive? According to a Washington Post article, the gun shop owner feels the recent Maryland gun control laws have already put him out of business and his shop will probably have to close anyway.
“If the same reaction happens here [that happened to Oak Tree Gun Club], we’ll be out of business,” Raymond said in an interview.
He’s willing to risk that because Maryland, with its strict gun-control laws, “has already essentially put us out of business.” He also believes that firearms like Armatix’s will expand the market to people who want an ultra-safe gun.
Raymond said he’s on the “right-wing vanguard of gun rights” but is vehemently opposed to gun rights activists arguing against the idea of a smart gun — or any gun.
“To me that is so fricking hypocritical,” Raymond said. “That’s the antithesis of everything that we pro-gun, pro-Second Amendment people should be. You are not supposed to say a gun should be prohibited. Then you are being no different than the anti-gun people who say an AR-15 should be prohibited.”
But the owner of the gun shop is forgetting a VERY big reason why we pro-gunners are against any gun shop selling smart guns. A 2002 law in New Jersey states that as soon as a smart gun is sold anywhere in the United States all New Jersey residence will be forced to only buy smart guns from their dealers.
It will essentially be a ban on handguns, making it illegal to buy or sell a non-smart gun firearm. This law would come into effect within 3 years of a smart gun being made available anywhere in the United States. So a gun shop in Maryland making the Armatix iP1 available to its customers will have a major impact to gun owners and would-be gun owners in New Jersey.
And if you don’t think other anti-gun states will adopt similar laws once this is in place you are just kidding yourself. We’ve gone into detail before on how “smart guns” are neither smart nor effective and could actually put gun owners in more danger, but the sale of this particular smart gun in the Maryland shop will more than likely be a horrible business move for the owner.
So what’s the real reason Obama and anti-gunners want to ban guns and restrict your 2nd amendment rights? This Video by a survival expert will shock you. CLICK HERE. (Sponsored Ad)
