(WXYZ) – A 46-year-old woman is under arrest after she critically wounded a 47-year-old man who reportedly charged at her from her own backyard.
The shooting happened around 4:00 a.m. in the 11000 block of Minden in Detroit. The woman was heading back inside her home after returning from the store.
She told relatives she couldn’t sleep and left to buy some cigarettes.
Moment after parking in her driveway, she saw the suspect charging at her and she opened fire, she told relatives.
According to the woman’s husband, the man got back up after being shot in the chest and said he was going to kill her.
That’s when her husband let their two dogs out, a pitbull and a bulldog. The dogs pulled the suspect back over the fence and kept him there until police arrived. The woman’s husband says the dogs were protecting her.
The woman has a permit to carry a concealed pistol, but it seems her claim of self-defense isn’t adding up to investigators and they placed the woman under arrest.
A decision from prosecutors on whether the woman will face any charges could come as early as Tuesday.
