One New Yorkers is already feeling the effects of restrictive gun control laws that the state just put into effect earlier this year.
Gregory Dean was driving down the road when he saw blue lights in his rear-view mirror. The troopers pulled him over because his license plate light was out.
But while interviewing Dean, one of the police officers notices a handgun on the passenger seat, partially covered by a sweatshirt. The .40 cal gun was found to be legally registered and owned in NY, but there was a problem…. the gun had 9 bullets.
New York law just made it illegal to own a firearm holding more than 7 rounds. So because of 2 bullets and an overly-repressive gun control law, Gregory Dean was arrested.
Police charged Dean with unlawful possession of “certain ammunition feeding devices“, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, both misdemeanors, plus vehicle infractions, police said.
The police were enforcing the newly passed SAFE ACT, but did this really make any one safer? All it did was criminalize a law abiding citizen– well unless you consider a light being out on a license plate a serious breach of the law.
Did this law really save anyone’s life? The word “infringe” comes to mind when reading this story.
But if you think anti-gun lawmakers are happy with a 7 round limit in your gun, think again. They will keep lowering that number until we really are back to the musket days. But even then they won’t be happy with the caliber size of a musket ball.
If you want to see more silly laws like this that make people feel better about themselves but do NOTHING to stop real gun violence then by all means keep voting in lawmakers that call for “common sense” gun laws when they really just want to limit 2nd amendment rights to the point of uselessness.
So much for the police not enforcing these silly gun control laws, at least in New York.
But we know that the gangs and criminals will make sure to limit their round capacity to 7 rounds right? Yeah, and if you believe that I’m pretty sure I know who you voted into office.
Well, I let you know how I feel about this law. Feel free to leave a comment to let us know what you think about it.
