We who support the 2nd amendment have seen another victory for our cause, and it’s good to know there are still governors out there willing to put the constitution first.
Yesterday, Governor Brian Sandoval (R) of Nevada vetoed Senate Bill 221 which would have banned and criminalized all firearm private transfers.
This overreaching gun control bill would have brought heavy penalties to anyone who transferred a firearm even between CCW permit holders. Even if a father decided to give his son one of his firearms that was passed down to him the penalty could have been temporary or permanent disarmament. Confiscating guns from gun owners simply for doing what has always been legal and which is done every day by law abiding Americans is simply wrong, and Governor Sandoval agreed.
What makes this an even bigger victory for 2nd amendment supporters is that Michale Bloomberg, mayor of NYC, has poured hundreds of thousands of dollars into the state trying to influence the outcome of the gun control law, and all that money has been wasted. Bloomberg has been an arch enemy of the 2nd amendment and anyone who supports the right to bear arms, and he expressed his disappointment of the bill being vetoed by making the following statement:
“Rather than sign sensible legislation that keeps guns out of the hands of convicted felons and the mentally ill, Governor Sandoval has decided to preserve the loopholes that they use to buy guns,” said Mayors Against Illegal Guns Co-Chair and New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. “The state legislature and 86 percent of Nevadans support comprehensive background checks, but this veto means that criminals and the dangerously mentally ill will continue to get a free pass in Nevada.”
So 86% of Nevadans want to criminalize the private transfer of firearms even between concealed carry permit holders? Wonder where he’s cooking up those statistics. Sounds like Mr. Bloomberg and Mr. Obama use the same stat sheet.
Governor Sandoval announced his intentions to veto the bill before the actual veto, and he even assigned a letter after sending the bill to the abyss.
In his veto message, Sandoval says the background checks sections put “unreasonable” burdens on law-abiding Nevadans while doing little to prevent criminals from getting firearms illegally. And this is the whole point that gun control activists don’t understand. The laws they are pushing for are not only unconstitutional but they don’t do a thing to stop the bad guys with the guns. They only restrict the rights of the law abiding and therefore endanger more lives.
Governor Sandoval also signed into law pro-gun Senate Bill 76 on May 29, which will allow a CCW applicant to qualify with only one type of handgun, rather than having to qualify with a semi-automatic pistol and a revolver.
Nevada has a governor who is a willing supporter of the 2nd amendment, and we at Guns ‘n’ Freedom salute him.
If you’d like to thank Governor Sandoval for standing up for the rights of the people you can email him here and let him know you support him. We know the anti0gun machine will be busy trying to send their hounds after him, so he needs all the support he can get.
