Remember this map? Gun owners across the country were outraged when the editor of a New York newspaper decided to obtain and publish the names and addresses of gun permit owners in the NYC area.
Rockland County Chief Editor Caryn McBride rose to fame after her involvement in this mess, since she was a major reason this map was ever published at all.. She was the one who also called the police department after she said the newspaper company was receiving angry phone calls and letters. But when the local police did not agree that anyone at the newspaper company was in danger, Mcbride tried to hire a security company (with guns) to protect their employees.
Well the irony and hypocrisy just don’t end there.
Now one of the editors who had the largest part in publishing this map (as she is very anti-gun herself) is out of a job.
Rockland Times reported that Mcbride along with 25 other staffers for the newspaper company were let go.
The layoffs were announced by the newspaper’s CEO, Janet Hasson.
The fallout from the decision to publish the names and addresses of gun-permit holders continued for weeks.
The original title of the publication sent out with the map and location of gun owners said, “Where are the gun permits in your neighborhood?”
As a response one publication was entitled “Where are the Journal News employees in your neighborhood?”
Shortly after the incident one of the gun owner’s homes was broken into and the gun safe was damaged in the robbery.
