On Tuesday, President Obama met with big city mayors to discuss some of his gun control agendas, saying that he would push his executive powers to the limit to enact gun control measures.
According to the Washington Times, this was a closed-door meeting to discuss how to reduce youth violence in these major cities.
Mr. Obama “vowed to continue doing everything in his power to combat gun violence through executive action and to press Congress to pass common-sense reforms like expanding the background check system and cracking down on gun trafficking,” the White House said in a statement.
Obama failed to push through his federal gun control measures even after soliciting the help of Sandy Hook victims in an attempt to create an argument against guns that would not have even stopped the tragic massacre.
Those in attendance to this closed-door meeting were the mayors of these cities: Newark, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., New Orleans, Oakland, Baltimore, Kansas City, Hampton, VA, and Atlanta.
It should be noted that the city with the greatest gun violence of all and with the strictest gun control measures as well, was not represented in the meeting, Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago, IL was notably absent.
President Obama also asked the mayor’s for input on how to reduce youth violence in these cities, and perhaps that’s why Mayor Emanuel was not there. After all, what kind of advice could he give with some of the toughest gun control laws in the nation and a horrid track record to show for it.
