Remember how long it took President Obama to call the San Bernardino attacks an act of terrorism? Actually, he still won’t call it what it is, Islamic radical terrorism. It seemed he wanted it to be work place violence so it would be a convenient excuse to push for more gun control.
Apparently he now sees work place violence and terrorism as essentially the same thing, allowing him to continue the drum beat of gun control in a country that is crying out for more freedom to protect itself.
Now we are hearing in his own words that he views terrorism exactly the same as any mass shooting by a deranged person.
This from Breitbart.com,
“It’s not that different from us trying to detect the next mass shooter,” he said. “You don’t always see it. They are not always communicating publicly, and if you’re not catching what they say publicly, then it becomes a challenge.”
Obama was asked how he could reassure Americans that they were safe when it was obvious that the federal government was unable to stop the attacks in San Bernardino.
Obama said law enforcement and national security officials would continue cooperation and maintain vigilance on issues of terrorism, but that the threat was different than the threat posed by the terrorist operatives in the 9/11 attacks.
The new threat of lone-wolf attacks, Obama insisted, was diminished by the fact that they were unable to conduct “large complex attacks” like 9/11 but admitted that “as we saw in San Bernardino, obviously, you can still do enormous damage.”
The president’s response to any mass shooting has always been to attempt to take more gun rights from the law abiding. So what is his plan to stop terrorists in light of these statements? The exact same thing.
But with more Americans than ever opposing the so-called “assault weapons” ban this might be a difficult task.
Reports from rollcall.com have been coming in saying Obama plans to use this holiday season to mastermind some executive orders on gun control.
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Thursday he anticipates a legal review to continue through the holidays.
Since the deadly shooting in San Bernardino, Calif., White House officials have been, as Earnest has put it, “scrubbing through the law” to determine whether and how Obama can use his constitutional authorities to make it harder for terrorists and other potential mass shooters to legally obtain firearms.
On both sides of the Capitol, sources involved in the guns debate say, as one senior House GOP leadership aide put it, “something is brewing on guns.”
If we were to take a poll of all terrorists who want to kill Americans, I would bet that 100% of them would prefer Americans to be unarmed when they carry out their attacks. So you better believe that ISIS (or ISIL if you like how the president prefers to give this group some legitimacy) is smiling from ear to ear every time they hear Obama give a speech about too many Americans having guns.
In a lame duck presidency there isn’t much we can do to stop the insanity of executive orders except to hit the ballot box hard in November and remember those politicians that threatened to take away our sacred right to defend ourselves and families.
