The actions of this off duty Dallas police officer more than likely saved a woman’s life this week. Police are saying that this brave act could have been carried out by any citizen with a firearm who sought to stop a deadly threat in this situation, but our hats off to this off duty cop.
According to WFAA,
Dallas Police Deputy Chief Gil Garza said in a news conference the officer was out of uniform and headed to a family function when he saw an altercation. A woman was stopped at an intersection when another car, driven by the suspect, pulled up alongside her. Words were exchanged between the two, then the suspect fired multiple shots into the victim’s vehicle.
The officer witnessed the shooting, got out of his vehicle, and intervened before he shot the suspect.
The suspect and victim in the shooting were both taken to local hospitals in critical condition, though their injuries are thought to be non-life-threatening.
The shooting occurred outside of Harry Stone Montessori on “meet the teacher” night. The main entrances to the school were locked down for a period.
You can expect that one of Bloomberg’s supposed “grassroots” anti-gun groups will list this as a school shooting to help drum up more support. The group has done this before as you can see here. But it is obvious that this was a case where a good guy with a gun stopped a woman from being killed.
Glad the officer in the video made it clear that any citizen could have intervened in this situation. Of course, it would not have done much good if that citizen were not armed.
