According to KIROTV, John Laigaie is a retired military veteran. He was walking his dogs as he always does in the park, with a firearm openly carried at his side.
An officer stopped Laigaie and told him that carrying a gun was illegal. When asked for an ID, Laigaie refused and offered the officer a copy of the law instead. That’s when the ill-informed officer drew his gun and pointed it at a perfectly law abiding citizen.
The crazy thing about this whole story is that it took two citizens walking by and informing the officer that open carry is actually legal for the officer to put his gun away. Props to Laigaie for not once putting his hand on his gun during the entire incident, even with a gun 6 inches away from his chest.
Laigaie filed a complaint over the incident and now he has been rewarded $15,000. Also, as a result of this case, officers are now taking extra training courses so they are aware of the law, which should be a no-brainer for anyone with a gun who is in charge of enforcing the law.
