Just one parent has complained after a Rock Hill, SC middle school decided to honor our veterans by allowing the students to hold the guns they use every day in defense of our country. These guns were safety checked multiple times and posed no threat to anyone, but the image of a gun in a students hands was just too much for some to handle.
During the Veterans Day event at the school, some students were allowed to touch and hold some of the guns like an M4 rifle and M2 machine gun.
According to WCNC, the entire experience was closely monitored and controlled by trained, active duty members of the military and all guns were repeatedly safety checked to ensure everyone’s safety.
It was merely the image of a student with a gun that caused this one parent to complain, which resulted in the school taking the picture down from its blog.
“It is kind of hard to teach students about veterans, and the military, and the history of patriotism without there being some weapons involved,” said Campbell.
“Those guns are completely no ammo. They had been checked out by the military themselves, who brought them into our school,” Principal Campbell said.
The principal of the school says she has no regrets about holding this event and she plans on doing the same thing next year. And she has our complete support.
