This video shows us that a lethal hit will not always stop the aggressor right away and why gun magazine restrictions to 7 rounds like in NY are simply ridiculous.
Oregon State Police released a dashcam video showing a gun battle that unfolded Aug. 29 off an Interstate about 100 miles east of Portland and ended in the death of the suspect.
The video shows Trooper Matt Zistel, 26, pull over a Cadillac for speeding on I-84. John Van Allen, 34, was the driver of the car, but when he is pulled over he immediately exits the car and stands next to it as the trooper commands him to step back inside his car.
Allen does not budge but asks why he was pulled over. Remaining in a military stance, Allen refuses to obey the officer’s orders to get back inside his car. He then drew a sidearm and began firing at the officer.
Officer Zistel returned fire and one round hit the suspect in the chest. In the video you can also see Allen accidentally drop his magazine from the gun, which may have saved the officer’s life.
Allen returned to his car and sped off as the officer called in the incident. But the wounded driver only made it a half mile down the road before he slumped over and died from the gunshot wound.

It was found that the driver’s 3 children were also in the car, ages 10, 13 and 15 and it was reported that they were on a road trip. Allen was an army veteran and his family said that they do not understand why Allen pulled a gun on the trooper.

Another reason to comply with a LEO, he or she can never tell what you’re up to and after watching this, anyone can easily see why traffic stops can get deadly.
That man put his entire family in danger and the officer responded the only way he could. It is very tragic that this all happened in front of his children!
Thank god none of those kids were hurt. As someone who is critical of LEO’s abusing their authority, this officers performed his duty stellarly. Almost too well for his own good, in fact.
