It seems like the ones most vocal about the Geroge Zimmerman trial are the ones who don’t even understand the details of the case. Steve Wonder has just made his way to our own boycott list when he claimed to avoid the state of Florida because of the “Stand Your Ground” law.
“I decided today that until the ‘stand your ground’ law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again,” Wonder said. “As a matter of fact, wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world.”
Did Stevie even pay attention to the Zimmerman trial? Does he realize that the defense never even defended Zimmerman with this law, but ignored it completely. They defended their client based solely on self-defense. And in this country it is still legal to defend yourself from getting killed or severely inured. Imagine that.
The fact that the “Stand Your Ground Law” had nothing to do with this case will not keep anti-gun activists from using this law to prove their point, but it really shows how irrelevant their argument is and how ignorant some people are. As an informed gun owner it’s hard to take Stevie Wonder seriously when his statements are based in dream land.
Stevie went on to say,
“The truth is that — for those of you who’ve lost in the battle for justice, wherever that fits in any part of the world — we can’t bring them back,” he said. “What we can do is we can let our voices be heard. And we can vote in our various countries throughout the world for change and equality for everybody. That’s what I know we can do.”
If Mr. Wonder is really going to go through with his boycott of Florida he will also have to boycott about 20 other states in the US who also have “Stand Your Ground” laws. let’s see if he stays true to those misguided convictions.
I’ve never been a huge Stevie Wonder fan, but I’ve never had anything against him either, until now. But I’ve decided to boycott him as well. After all, why should I support someone who uses their notoriety to try to take away my God-given rights?
If Mr. Wonder really doesn’t want to give use the ability to stand our ground and defend ourselves then what is the alternative? Would he rather we just give up and resign ourselves to our own deaths when confronted with violence? I doubt even he would agree with that, but if he’s not paying attention to the true reason for the “Stand Your Ground Law” then it makes no sense to argue with him. All I can do it return the favor to Stevie Wonder and avoid his music.
