You would think a school would have enough sense to welcome an armed SWAT officer instead of asking him to disarm himself when coming onto school property when he picked up his daughter from school. But apparently the site of a gun was just too scary for some parents to handle and they decided to take action. (watch VIDEO at end of this post)
Entz Elementary School in Mesa, Arizona received some complaints about the armed officer having a gun. So the principal of the school called him up and made a very audacious request, asking him to not wear his gun and uniform at school because it alarmed some of the parents.
The request both shocked and angered many people as the idea of demonizing the good guy with the gun just because he had a gun was ludicrous.
“There were some parents who were concerned about that fact that there was a fully armed officer on campus and they spoke to the principal about it,” said Helen Hollands, spokesperson for Mesa Unified School District.
The officer then took to Facebook to vent his complaint with the school over this obvious anti-gun approach.
“Nothing like your kids school calling and asking if I could not come to pick up my daughter in uniform cause parents were concerned when their kids came home telling them there was a man at school with a gun. Are you freaking kidding me?” said the officer on his Facebook page.
The school officials said they didn’t realize they had upset or offended the officer by asking him to leave his uniform and gun at home. Really? How did they think he should react? By being understanding of a few lunatic parents who think guns are evil and everyone who carries them must also be evil?
Because of some of the outrage over the school’s initial decision they are now reversing that decision and wanting to turn this incident into a “teachable moment” for the kids.
“We apologize that he took the discussion the wrong way perhaps, that was not the intent of the principal to offend him,” said Hollands.
The school has now invited the officer to the school to talk to the children about what officers do in the community. Watch news video of this story here:
The anti-gun hysteria on the side of gun control activists is simply alarming. It seems like schools are more concerned about law abiding gun owners and gun right supporters than they are about actually protecting the children from criminals.
