When 2 armed and masked criminals robbed a local Reading, Pennsylvania store and tried to get away, an armed citizen pulled out his own gun and told the crooks to wait for police to arrive. But instead the 2 robbers aimed their guns at the private citizen and that’s when they were shot by this gun carrying hero.
But now the families of the 2 deceased crooks want “justice” for their loved ones and they are seeking to sue the private citizen for his brave actions. The private citizen’s name is not being released for fears of retaliation.
It’s not fair,” said Virginia Medina, mother of 24-year-old William Medina, who police said robbed Krick’s Korner store alongside 18-year-old Robert De Carr on Monday.
The two men were shot and killed by a private citizen while leaving the store, and family members want to see charges pressed.
“[William] had no right to lose his life over something that man could have called the police for,” said Medina. “He took the law into his own hands and walked away scot-free.”
“How about if people just start running around here, policing the city on their own? How much worse is it going to get?” said Peter Ratel, Medina’s cousin.
The family members said they are hurt by comments suggesting the alleged robbers were “thugs.”
According to Medina, William was “no big hard criminal” and was rather a family-man who loved his young daughter.
Robert De Carr was described similarly by his sister, Taylor De Carr.
“My brother was a good kid,” she told 69 News.
While I’m sure the families of the 2 deceased are hurting from their loss, it does not help their cause to take away any responsibility of their loved ones and take aim at a man who was simply defending his life and trying to stop a crime.
The families are blaming the wrong person all while justifying the act of robbing a store with guns and masks and then threatening to shoot an innocent bystander. The sister said “My brother was a good kid.” Really? So good kids terrify store clerks by pointing loaded guns in their faces. This is the real problem with crime in America. As long as families justify this kind of behavior it will only cause more armed robberies to occur.
Our hats off to this private citizen who had the guts to stop the crime and wait for police, and who also was able and willing to defend himself when his life was threatened. Perhaps the families are so upset because they were really relying on the money the crooks were attempting to steal.
These thugs are dead because of THEIR OWN ACTIONS. And thanks to Pennsylvania’s Castle Doctrine the families will not be able to sue the private citizen in civil court.
