Apparently Lt. Col. Robert Bateman never took an oath to support and defend the constitution, because now the US Army officer (who is currently living in England) wants to disarm his fellow Americans and turn our country into a gun-free utopia in which only the criminals have guns.
Although our nation won it’s independence with guns and our brave men and women continue to serve our nation with guns, Bateman hates the idea of American citizens owning guns.
In a recent article for Esquire Bateman calls for the repeal of the 2nd amendment and blames the Supreme Court for getting it wrong in interpreting the 2nd amendment.
The Army officer wishes America were more like his beloved England, which endured a handgun ban in 1997 and saw the homicide rate skyrocket over the next 26 years.
His wishlist for America’s disarmament looks like this, only allowing for certain guns to be legal:
The only guns permitted will be the following:
a. Smoothbore or Rifled muzzle-loading blackpowder muskets. No 7-11 in history has ever been held up with one of these.
b. Double-barrel breech-loading shotguns. Hunting with these is valid.
c. Bolt-action rifles with a magazine capacity no greater than five rounds. Like I said, hunting is valid. But if you cannot bring down a defenseless deer in under five rounds, then you have no (expletive) reason to be holding a killing tool in the first place.
You will notice that there are no handguns on the list and he wants us to go back to the days of the musket. I wonder if he also wants to ban the internet and cell phones since the 1st amendment couldn’t possibly have been written to include such modern devices.
Bateman also thinks ammunition is just too cheap and we should pay a huge tax on it. His anti-gun plans for America include a not so gradual tax hike:
We will submit a new tax on ammunition. In the first two years it will be 400 percent of the current retail cost of that type of ammunition. (Exemptions for the ammo used by the approved weapons.) Thereafter it will increase by 20 percent per year.
You can read the whole article if you can stomach it, but it’s probably not worth your time. Bateman is obviously starving for attention and attempting to run for political office in his near future. But with recall elections being spurred by politicians who try to restrict gun rights, it’s not exactly a great time to be against our nation’s 2nd amendment.
We wrote recently on a poll that showed less and less support for gun control, much to the chagrin of CNN who ran the poll.
We read the advice of one man who recommended that we leave Bateman in England and put him on the no-fly list. Sounds like a great idea to me.
