Yesterday a Florida college student was able to grab the gun from his car when he was being attacked by two brothers at East Florida State College.

Amado Contreras was shot once in the chest, after Contreras and his 24-year-old brother Landyer attacked 24-year-old student Landrick Hamilton with a “pool stick.”
Both Hamilton and Contreras were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
So far the details are still sketchy but it looks like the two brothers who allegedly attacked Hamilton were not college students at the University.
When Hamilton got in his car the two suspects were apparently waiting for him and they started assaulting Hamilton shortly after he got to his car.
One shot was fired from Hamilton’s gun which he kept in the car. Florida law prohibits even concealed carry permit holders from having guns on campus but they are allowed to keep firearms in their cars.
The shot suspect sustained one gun shot wound to the chest but he is expected to survive.
It was only 2 months ago that a Florida appeals court struck down a ban on firearms in vehicles at another Florida campus. Had that ban been in place at East Florida State College who knows how the story would have ended with 2 attackers taking on a lone student.
The police chief says that the shooting did not occur on campus but in the parking lot of the school, but this is essentially on campus. If a madman with a gun was walking around the parking lot of the school looking for victims it would be reported as an on campus shooter.
