I don’t want to jump to too many conclusions on this one, but there are several things about the loaded gun that was found at a South Carolina Target that just don’t add up. And rememember that this incident happened just days after anti-gun groups began petitioning for Target to ban guns from its stores.
Until we get more details on this incident let’s look at what we already know.
According to wmbfnews.com,
The gun was in plain view on top of a superhero Playskool toy box when the worker found it; he thought it was a toy. He realized it was real after seeing it was loaded with live ammo.
The fact that it was found in an aisle geared toward children makes some shoppers feel this was no accident.
“I don’t think someone would accidentally drop off a gun. I think he purposely left it there for a child to pick up and think, ‘Oh it’s a toy gun,’ and accidentally point it at somebody and it goes off,” says Kennedy McClain.
I don’t pretend to know the mind of the twisted person that did this, but it should be pretty obvious that the gun was left there on purpose, with the intention of a child picking it up.
Any sensible gun owner would not just happen to leave his/her gun on top of a toy box so either the person was very anti-gun and wanted to gin up the anti-gun base over this or this was a very disturbed person who just wanted to see someone get hurt.
Target has already faced heavy pressure from anti-gun groups like Moms Demand Action, but so far the group has been unable to see the company budge on their stance of simply abiding by local laws. Could this have been someone’s way of getting the retail chain to stand up and take notice? If so it’s a pretty twisted way of doing it.
If an anti-gun person wanted to buy a gun and leave it somewhere it would make sense that he would buy the cheapest gun possible. No offense to our friends who own High-Points, but this is as cheap as it gets in the gun industry.
One of the Target employees saw a man just before the gun was found who was acting conspicuously, further leading to the idea that the gun was not left there on accident.
You have to ask yourself who has the most to gain from this heinous, willful act as well. If a child had actually found the gun and picked it up and fired a shot every anti-gun group in the universe would be calling for more gun laws, more gun bans, and more gun-free zones. These are all things anti-gunners are pushing for.
Until we get more details we simply don’t know how the gun got there and why it was left there. But there is enough evidence to know at the very least that this person should be charged to the fullest extent of the law.
Whether it was a plant or not anti-gunners should all be thanking the NRA for the advice given on their gun safety courses for children which teach them to “STOP, Don’t touch, Leave the Area, and Tell an Adult”.
