WTOV9 reported today that an Ohio woman was sleeping when she woke up to what sounded like a door slamming. Turns out it was an intruder who forced his way in through the window by pushing in the AC unit.
But Tammy Takach was not about to become a victim. After all, she was a gun owner and she spent some time at the range with her husband before.
She grabbed her gun and confronted the intruder who was taken completely off guard.
23-year-old Ryan Geary knew right away that he broke into the wrong house and pleaded for mercy and for her not to pull the trigger and not to call the cops. He said,
“I’m sorry. I’m just going to go.”
That tactic might have worked in some houses, but Tammy responded with one of the best lines I’ve heard against an intruder at gunpoint, saying,
‘The only place you’re going to go is jail. And if you move, you’re going to the morgue.”
After the Steubenville police came and took the intruder away, Tammy ended up going to work that day and went about her business.
Her husband said Tammy was well prepared for a situation like this and it had little effect on her.
“We go to the range as much as we can. we own a lot of firearms” said Anson Takach. “I’ve had extensive training with fire arms, so I teach her and my son how to be responsible and to remain calm in situations like that.”
The son was actually asleep the whole time and came downstairs to be greeted by a house full of police officers.
The husband said that this was the first time she ever had to use her gun to defend herself and he hopes it will be her last, but it looks like if she does ever have to use it again she knows how to handle herself.
The intruder, Ryan Geary, is being held in Jefferson County Jail on $50,000 bond.
