When we first heard of the 14-year-old WV teen (Jared Marcum) who was facing an obstruction charge for refusing to change his NRA t-shirt, we thought for sure the charge would be dismissed and he would not be arrested. But when prosecution decided to move forward with the case the teen was faced with possible jail time of a year and a fine.
Remember it was the school that called police when the teen wore an NRA t-shirt to class and would not change it. But now the story gets even more ridiculous as the prosecution in the case has threatened the teen with a gag order, supposedly for his protection.
But now even the reporter in this story was threatened with obstruction and thrown out of the court house as you can see in the video below:
The prosecution did not want Jared or his family to share their story with the press so they try to get a gag order all while trying to make it look like they were looking after the best interest of the family. Jared’s father saw it differently:
“It was for Jared’s better interest is what I was told, which seems to be a bit odd to me,” Lardieri said. “These are the same individuals that are trying to prosecute him, so as far as them knowing what is in his better interest, I have a lot of questions about that.”
Probably to avoid embarrassment the prosecution ended up withdrawing the gag order request on the condition that Jared’s parents waive the confidentiality that bars the prosecution from speaking freely about his case, due to him being a minor.
There is something very wrong with this entire case, and we need to do everything we can do support Jared as he has become the target of the anti-gun power-holders in WV.
Even if he ends up not getting any jail time, Jared will most likely have this on his record for his entire life. For what? For wearing a t-shirt that supports the 2nd amendment of our constitution? Does anyone else think we should go after the ACTUAL criminals instead of trying to score political points?
