The head of Michale Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns has finally come to the realization that gun owners are much more passionate about their rights of self-protection and gun ownership than anti-gunners are about taking away those rights.
Mark Glaze has been the head of the anti-gun group since 2011 is now stepping down, feeling there is nothing more he can do. The anti-gun group has been just as ineffective in its purpose as gun control laws are in stopping criminals.
According to the Chicago Tribune,
“It is time for me to hand off the fight to somebody else,” Glaze, 43, said in an interview. “The issue is unbelievably important to me. But it’s a tough issue and a tough grind. And there’s a point where you feel you’ve done all you can do…”
“…People who thought that you were going to win the hardest public policy fight there is overnight and defeat the toughest special interest were kidding themselves,” he said.
This news comes on the heels of the announcement by Bloomberg to spend $50 towards another anti-gun group called Everytown for Gun Safety. The group’s new name has revealed a subtle shift in terms from promoting “gun control” to “gun safety”, but the group’s only idea of “safety” is to restrict 2nd amendment rights with more gun control laws.
The group has faced constant criticism even from its own mayors. MAIG has even attempted to pay off a mayor to keep him from leaving the group.
We reported last year about a list of complaints members of the group had after leaving MAIG. Some of the complaints included a statement that the group was not just against illegal guns but that it was against ALL guns.
Bloomberg probably already saw the writing in the sand and that’s why he started Everytown for Gun Safety to try to inject new energy into the anti-gun movement. But with pro-gun groups taking the name and starting Facebook pages left and right to promote true gun safety and more people figuring out that anything attached to Bloomberg’s name means anti-gun, the former mayor will have a hard time keeping the head of this group as well.
