The Mayors Against Illegal Guns group is not really against illegal guns. They are against guns in general, and one mayor in Illinois is tired of being used as a pawn for gun control (watch VIDEO below).
Rockford Illinois Mayor, Larry Morrissey, announced at a city hall meeting that he is leaving Bloomberg’s group of mayors because rather than the group living up to its name it focuses on infringing on the rights of law abiding gun owners.
“The reason why I joined the group in the first place was that I took the name for what it said — against illegal guns,” he said.
The challenge of the city’s law enforcement was, in the vast majority of cases, “typical handguns” that are “in the hands of people prohibited from having them,” he said.
So how did the crowd at the city hall meeting respond to this announcement? They applauded and cheered.
Mayor Morrissey was taking questions from the crowd when someone asked, “Do you support concealed carry?”
“Yes, I do support concealed carry,” Morrissey answered. “I plan on myself getting a concealed carry permit once they become available in the state of Illinois.”
The mayor of Rockford, Illinois just earned a great deal of respect from us for not only leaving this group (which he never should have been a part of in the first place), but because he was willing to take a stand to leave it and support the rights of gun owners in his city.
